A look back at 2009
by Neil on Dec.31, 2009, under General Information
As we approach 2010, we would like to thank all our friends and fundraisers for all their support during 2009. It’s been a very busy year for the Charity, and you’ll be able to read all about it in our next Newsletter which should be out during January. Thanks to a Grassroots Grant, we managed to expand into Mirfield this year, which has enabled us to reach more people. As demand for our help grows, we’d love more of you to get involved in fundraising in 2010. We’re sure you’ll have lots of ideas, so get in touch with us! 2009 also saw us joined by two new Trustees, Helen and Dan. We’re really pleased to have them on board for what will be a very busy year for us.
We’ve had lots of successful fundraising events too this year – ones that stand out include our Comedy Night at the Peacock Lounge, Garden Party in Mirfield, Curry Night at the Shama and Casino Night at the Marsh Liberal Club. (continue reading…)
Ryan Hawkins’ aunt joins charity that helped family after his murder
by Neil on Dec.17, 2009, under In The Press
RYAN Hawkins’ aunt is giving something back to the charity that helped her family in the wake of the youngster’s murder. Helen Beresford has joined The Joseph Salmon Trust as a trustee. The trust, set up by Marsh couple Neil and Rachael Salmon, helps families who have lost children meet funeral and related costs. Its first ever donation was to Ryan’s mum, Val Gee, after the four-year-old was stabbed to death by his father, Christopher Hawkins, in Slaithwaite on September 23, 2007.Val and her daughters, Donna and Natalie, were given £500 by the trust towards the cost of a holiday in Florida as they came to terms with Ryan’s death.
Mulled Wine and Mince Pies….yum yum
by Neil on Dec.11, 2009, under Fundraisers
Those lovely people at Don’t Forget, Marsh – Alison, Paul and Bev – arranged a Christmas Shopping event. Mulled wine and mince pies were served with donations coming to the Trust. We’re still adding up and will let you all know when we have a final amount! The event was part of the Marsh Christmas Evening where Carols were sung in the St. James’ Road Car Park, accompanied by a brass band.
