TIME is running out for supporters of a Huddersfield charity to sign a petition calling for headstones to be VAT-free.

More than 220 people have so far signed the petition on the 10 Downing Street website demanding the tax be removed from the supply and erection of memorial headstones.

Under current legislation funerals, cremations, burials and other related costs that are deemed essential are exempt from VAT.

Keep on Running…

by Neil on Mar.21, 2010, under Fundraisers

Claire Leader

Hi my name is Claire Leader and on the 2nd of April I will be 34. On the 25th of April I will run the Virgin London Marathon.

The marathon is something I have said I will do since my early twenties and something I intended to do before I turned 30 but due to the large number of people applying I have been unsuccessful in getting a place.

The moment I found out I was running this year was actually on the 1st of October at 12:04 when my Mum sent me a text message telling me I better dust my running shoes off as I was in.

That was quite scary but then you think it’s ages till race day so you think you will wait to start training until the weather gets a little better, there was one major problem though there, it didn’t!!

Due to both the bad weather and illness I have to admit that the training hasn’t gone according to plan and there are now about 5 weeks before race day and I haven’t got anywhere near the mileage I assumed I would by now and I’m not sure I actually enjoy running and sure that after 26.2 miles I will enjoy it even less.

So what is the reason I am doing this stupid crazy thing, well firstly because I am stupid and crazy and secondly to raise money for two very special charities.
