Jorvik Christmas Explorer Special
by Neil on Dec.23, 2011, under Fundraisers
On Sunday 11th of December those lovely people at The Penistone Line Partnership organised a Charity Charter Train to York in aid of the PLP and The Joseph Salmon Trust. The specially decorated train left Huddersfield at 09:35 and called at the Penistone line stations on our way to Barnsley, before heading non-stop on to York. There were surprises en route as a “lion” joined the train at Shepley to the theme “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” on the train PA system! Also joining us on our journey was a very special man in red to give a goody bag to all the children on board. Geraldine and Chris from the Station Buffet made sure that tea, coffee and biscuits were flowing throughout the outward journey. After 4 or 5 hours in a very wet York, we re-joined the train for the homeward journey – welcomed back on board with sherry and mince pies. A real ale bar was also on the train and our thanks go to Mallinson’s, the Sportsman and the Rat and Ratchet for their very kind donation of real ale. Thanks also to the Pathfinders Rock and Roll Band who kept us entertained all the way home. This trip took a tremendous amount of organising and our thanks go to The Penistone Line Partnership, Northern Rail, Neil Bentley, Paul Wood, Matthew Fisher, Steve Hurley, Rachel Stockton, Martin Cook, John Midgley, Martin Kearney, Paul Barnfield, Mark Sill, John Taylor, Graham Scholes, Janet Goldsmith, David Wilkinson, Ian Kaye, Chris Taylor, Glynn Scothern, John Harris and Paul Salveson!

Divine Chocolate!
by Neil on Dec.13, 2011, under Fundraisers
On Saturday 10th of December, we were delighted to have Chocolatier David Greenwood-Haigh join us at St. Stephen’s Church Lindley for an evening of Chocolate Tasting! Yum…!
The event was organised by Jemma Murphy and in addition to the obligatory chocolate tasting, we were treated to a history of Fairtrade and the differences this makes to farmers on the Cocoa Plantations.
Our grateful thanks to David, his wife Lesley, Jemma and Rob Murphy and all who attended the fantastic evening.
Casino Night Success!!
by Neil on Nov.19, 2011, under Fundraisers
Saturday the 12th of November saw us host our 3rd Annual Casino Night at the Marsh Liberal Club in Hudersfield. The ever popular Las Vegas style night attracted over 100 people to the transformed venue.
Members of the Marsh Liberal Club worked hard all afternoon to turn it into a casino for the evening.
Entertaining us throughout the evening were singers Joe Williams and Sarah Jay – not forgetting our ever entertaining Compere – Dave Laidlaw.
We’re especially grateful to everyone who ran Roulette and Blackjack tables, Guy and Zoe behind the bar, Wendy for the food, Rob Armitage, Jemma and Rob Murphy.
A big thank you to this years Sponsors – the Grosvenor Casino, Huddersfield, the Keys Restaurant, Huddersfield and The Nightingale, Lindley.
The evening raised £1000 and we’re already planning the next one!
