A COSMOPOLITAN collection of trekkers has raised a year’s worth of funding for a Huddersfield charity.
Fifty-five hikers and bikers, including people from the United States, Holland, Ireland, Scotland and England, tackled the 84-mile Hadrian’s Wall route for Marsh-based The Joseph Salmon Trust.
They raised a whopping £26,000 for the cause, which provides financial support to parents in Huddersfield and Mirfield who have lost children.
The trust was started in 2008 by Rachael and Neil Salmon, whose three-year-old son died as a result of pneumonia in 2005.
A girlie fun- raiser in memory of Shannen
by Neil on Jul.27, 2010, under In The Press
Shannen Harker, 15, of Thornhill Road, Rastrick, died when her father Stephen Rushworth crashed the VW Golf he was driving in Brighouse in 2008.
Her friends, Alice Enderby, Erika Leadbetter, Shoni Gale and Jessica Bilinski, all 17 and pupils at Rastrick high School, have organised a charity ball on August 6 at the Holiday Inn, Brighouse.
They hope the Sex and the City-themed night will raise £5,000 in their friend’s memory.
Alice said: “The ball will follow a Sex and the City theme as Shannen liked watching it and it’s a very girlie theme.”
